Man Who Shot at Police in New Hope, Minn. Was a Prohibited Purchaser

A man who shot 2 police officers after a swearing in ceremony in the New Hope, Minnesota City Hall on Monday was not legally allowed to own a firearm.

Per Minnesota law, he was prohibited from purchasing a gun since he had been committed to the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter along with an Anoka mental hospital.

Investigators are unsure of how or where he obtained the gun, but do know that he stopped the day of the shooting to purchase ammunition.
