On Wednesday, Chirlane McCray, the first lady of New York City spoke about her relationships to those with mental illnesses and how they have encouraged her to revamp the city's mental health care systems.
McCray discussed her daughter's recent struggle with depression, anxiety, and substance abuse, as well as her own parents' struggle with depression. She announced a review of New York City's mental health structure, in order to determine where there are disparities that can be improved upon.
The review will be completed by summer and will be funded by the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, and will surely improve the care that many in New York seek and will benefit from.
